COVID-19 live updates: CDC says it will update mask guidance

What are supposed to do if we cannot afford regular purchases of N95 masks? I am in the lower class community.

Just get kn95, for the most part, they are very similar. It’s just the accountability. N95 has more accountability and quality checks but KN95 can be just as good. You can look up BNX’s KN95. Their KN95 uses the same material as their N95 mask and goes through the same tests as N95.

What is the hold up? They said they will update the guidance (after saying they wouldn’t be updating it), but aren’t giving any timelines.

Like, how hard could it be to make guidelines around masking? How long could that possibly take? We implemented this terrible policy of 7 day quarantine and no negative test required damn near immediately, no real discussion, no back and forth, all while they refused to provide whatever data they were using as justification. Then we changed it a few days later to 5 days. Then we updated the guidelines yet again a week later.

But when it comes to something as simple as “Yep, Omicron is more contagious, we all need to be wearing N95’s now”, they need more time or more data or what? They don’t know what to say? They weren’t prepared for a scenario where they might need to recommend better masks? It just doesn’t make much sense.

It feels like yet another administration issue. They know that officially saying we need to move to N95 masks is going to create public pressure for the Biden administration to provide them to Americans for free. And Biden always seems reluctant to actually follow through with anything other than half-measures, so instead of leading the issue based on the science, the CDC is waiting to be updated from the White House as to what they should say and do.

I think it's more about the fact that any advice on masking has become a political issue that's about as radioactive as abortion or voluntary euthanasia. (And, yes, it's freaking ridiculous that a simple disease mitigation tool is political at all.)

By the time the white house even acts on this and gives them out to Americans we will be well last the peak anyway and won't need them anymore.

I mean seriously. Fuck this agency. They still decline to timely update guidance to wear the same masks their public-facing leaders do. Why?

It’s clearly time for Walensky to be replaced. She’s shown a staggering lack of leadership and the CDC has been wildly ineffective during the pandemic, dating back to the very earliest response. New leadership would really go a long way toward restoring confidence in our national response.

Maybe if you actually read the article instead of poorly reacting to a headline you would know. Then you would use some critical thinking and realize why the decisions have been made this way. Or did you just want free karma by “fuck cdc”?

Why did my post saying the same thing get removed? I agree!!

We have never followed CDC masking recommendations...my fam has been in n95s since the beginning.

As soon as there was conclusive evidence of aerosolized transmission we updated which masks we were using for prolonged indoor use.

Despite CDC’s reluctance to acknowledge said evidence.

We were still using surgical masks for drive-through etc., but as soon as Delta was identified, we put all those away.

Now it’s N95s, a few KN95s, and KF94s.

Yeah I've been double masking or wearing KN95s for at least a year now.

I bought all my staff n95s and said "these will help." Oddly half don't wear them, just shtty cloth ones.

Us too. But what grinds my gears is so many institutions implement policy based on CDC guidance, to include private corporations, schools, and local government, never mind the feds and military, and there’s real benefit to be had.

Same our toddler wore a mask at 18 month when she had to go into the hospital. and now wears her KF94 that can finally fit her - she likes that it’s a big girl mask.

I bought n95s as soon as they removed the "acceptable facial hair for tight n95 seal" diagram from their website.

Which was like the same week they were telling people not to wea

n95 masks.

I'm sure this won't be twisted into some outrageous narrative by the antivax community.

ID: hsdrqah

If the CDC wasn’t so moronic with their statements and back tracking, then antivaxers couldn’t twist it
