‘Like a slap in the face’: Nurses told to use vacation and sick days to stay home if they test positive | Some nurses have been forced to use their own sick days and vacation days if they test positive for Covid-19 — or have even been told to return to work if they are asymptomatic.

This is happening at my work too. Everyone from nurses to housekeepers get their vacation/sick time stolen if they end up positive when just a year ago you were paid for it. Bullshit.

Rise up

Retail too.

I think it is everywhere now. No one gives special covid leave time anymore.

How is it stealing your sick leave if you’re sick?

My work wants us to get a medical certificate if we want to use more than three days sick leave while we have Covid. My state (in Australia) requires that you isolate for 10 days if Covid positive. I work for the same state government. You can’t make this stuff up.

Same with teachers. We have to use our personal days if we catch covid. My district isn’t even quarantining household contacts any more.

ID: hsmi99p

Yup.A lot of teachers are returning to work after contracting covid because they do not have many days in their reserve and or fear retaliation from administration.

Meanwhile insurance ghouls, hospital administrators and executives are pocketing millions all while doing none of the actual work on the floor. Absolute scum of the earth.

And they get to work from home where it doesn’t matter if you come to work sick because they’re already at home. Must be nice to keep getting paid when being out sick. Save on sick days.

Exactly.

This is happening in many professions. This just encourages people not to get tested especially if the have mild symptoms and hide it. Most people don’t have the luxury of taking 1-2 weeks off work especially if they just have mild to no symptoms. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if a month or two from now the CDC moves toward not testing and only isolating if extremely symptomatic.

It’s bullshit but this is where we are heading.

Well that's just great. I'm glad the nurses are being taken care of.

The situation is more dire than people appreciate.

Nurses and Medical Doctors.

Once 2 highly respected, and lucrative (rightly so) professions, that people often fantasized themselves doing.

Now... a position of shear misery and hell on Earth for 2 years, and on going. All made much (MUCH) worse by highly arrogant indifferent world politicians across the globe, seemingly in all countries.

With forced overtime, stolen vacations, zero respect (again from politicians, but also even now by yelling and threats from dying antivax patients and their families)...

And lots of endless miserable witnessed Corona Virus deaths that they see MANY times per day.

To the point, in which virtually no one anymore is looking at those 2 professions with envy anymore. Quite the opposite, as in:

"Note to my future self: do NOT, I repeat, do NOT, become a doctor or nurse! No f'ing way!"

Don't forget about EMTs and Paramedics

Big Business and Healthcare. Read r/nurses. Medicine in US hospitals is a sh*tshow for patients and nurses right now. Worse than before.

Covid is a sickness. Why shouldn't they use sick days? Vacations days, no. Sick days, yes. This makes sense.

Dumb af

My school district has been doing this to teachers almost a year now when they decided not to extend the ffca when they could have last spring. I know my district's not alone, and I believe since ffca extension ended in the fall, this is now most jobs I would guess.

19 :Anonymous2022/01/14(Fri) 12:13:47ID: hsmb1w4

Just use all your sick days and stick it to them. Do not stand for this abuse.

20 :Anonymous2022/01/14(Fri) 10:16:14ID: hsm16vm

Its not just covid, my wife just had to use vacation and sick days for back surgery. The injury requiring it happened at her work, of course we can't prove it.

21 :Anonymous2022/01/14(Fri) 07:41:40ID: hslozzs

Isn’t that what sick days are for? I mean, if you got a stomach flu from a patient you’d use your sick days too, right?

ID: hslwrd6

Are you talking about that stomach flu pandemic we had that disrupted the entire world for years? That one? Can you remind me when that was?

22 :Anonymous2022/01/14(Fri) 09:15:27ID: hslwju6

Everyone loves nurses so much but has no qualms whatsoever about firing them if they don't vax. And nurse shortages are so bad that they are firing thousands of them. Okay?

23 :Anonymous2022/01/14(Fri) 13:47:32ID: hsmlkxm

I keep getting spotify ads about becoming a nurse and how "my state NEEDS me" and I just think of stuff like this and think F no
